I have been overdosing on modern crime novels recently, and this has been the one that has left me the least depressed about the state of the world. I had not come across DI Charlie Priest before, and I rather like him. He's funny but dedicated, blokey but not misogynist, competent but human. The plot is less engaging, hanging rather too much on stuff we don't know until the end, but it's still very readable.
